Woven by
Laura Friedmann
I create custom fibre art and large-scale custom works that tell meaningful stories and elevate spaces.
Rooted in traditional and contemporary weaving, my work explores connection, movement and the ties between people, place, and the natural worlk
Each piece is carefully crafted using traditional and modern weaving and macrame techniques. I use a variety of fibres including recycled yarn, wool, sari silks, organic cotton and plant fibres.
WORKSHOPS
Hands-on weaving experiences that build skill and deepen our connection to fibre, process, and place.
TAPESTRIES
Bespoke woven artworks for homes, public spaces, and special projects. Each commission is a collaborative process, crafted with care and intention.
MOVEMENT ROOMS
I create custom woven ropes and tactile details for Movement Rooms’ play spaces. Designed for climbing and exploration.
Commission a piece
Order a bespoke woven artwork for your home, cottage, public space, or special project.
Beginning with a story, a memory, and a place, together we will shape custom tapestry that brings your vision to life.
Pricing is based on the size and complexity of the piece. Commissions typically take 4–8 weeks to complete, and a deposit is required to begin.
Beyond the loom
My work also explores installations, interactive pieces, and immersive experiences
I am intrigued by how fibre can enhance our human experience and help us return to what is essential. Texture, rich colours, and movement are elements we have lost in our ever-growing digital society. I believe that bringing these natural materials back into our environments will reignite and nurture our collective creativity.
Are you looking to experiment or create something? I’m up for the challenge!
About Me
I’m Laura Friedmann, a Colombian-born filmmaker and fibre artist living in Toronto with my husband and two children. I began weaving while recovering from trigeminal neuralgia, and in 2021 I founded Threads of Moonlight.
My films explore trauma, healing, and transformation. At night, when my children are asleep and the world slows down, I turn to the loom. Through fibre, I explore how working with our hands can help us reconnect with ourselves and one another, one thread at a time.
